Five years ago, no one had ever heard of Turks & Caicos – including the editors of virtually every magazine covering the golden beaches and azure waters of the Caribbean. Now, it’s a totally different story – magazines are falling all over themselves to praise this gem of the British West Indies as the best thing since, well, Paradise

The following is a list of recent articles on Turks & Caicos, and a brief summary of each…

Turks & Caicos Reels in More Awards

Turks & Caicos' Grace Bay Rated Best Beach in World
Caribbean.com, November 2005
What happens when you get the planet's top 156,000 travel agents together in the same place (London) at the same time? Well, you get a lot of debate over exotic far-flung locales, and which spots should top the list in dozens of categories. This year, however, the decision on which island boasts the "World's Best Beach" was nearly unanimous; Providenciales, clearly the island with the most enviable "sun, sand and sea" (according to voters), and home of Five Little Cays House, won in a landslide, following a trend originated in publications like Caribbean Travel & Life, Islands, and Conde Nast Traveler magazines.

White Hot Provo Steals Center Stage
Caribbean Travel & Life magazine, October 2005
Turks & Caicos graces the cover of this lauded publication's 20th Anniversary issue, and, inside, the magazine's executive editor, Dave Herndon, praises Provo's perfection for 10 pages, saying "all eyes" have turned to our "upstart island," where resorts and private villas like Five Little Cays House "redefine the concept of luxury," and where our "sumptuously beachy coastline" is surrounded by "what is arguably the loveliest aquamarine seawater that has ever been gazed upon anywhere." High praise indeed. Of course, we agree. And so do all the celebrities who've recently discovered Provo (many already own here, from Madonna to Bruce Willis to Donna Karan to Keith Richards). Herndon goes on to enlight the reader regarding Provo's history, which started with the Tainos (or Lucayan Indians), then seagoing Europeans, pirates, Bermudian salt rakers, British Loyalists during the American Revolution (who, wrongly, tried cultivating cotton on this truly desert isle), and, finally, what is now the native population, known as "Belongers" (the former slaves of the aforementioned Loyalists), and, most recently, the island's largest current population, expats hailing mainly from North American and Great Britain. Be sure to check out Herndon's geological history of Provo, as well, and its evolution of life forms, from the "sponges that filter the water and keep it clean to the corals that capture the sun's energy and create sediments that form the islands and its trademark perfect, white, powdery sand." The latter, coupled with our unsurpassed waters, add up to what this magazine calls "one of the most exclusive destinations in the sea." Wow! What are you waiting for? Come on down!
